LESSONS

ZENTANGLES

Grade levels: 6 & 7

This project introduces students to the meditative drawing process of Zentangles. Students use black Sharpie markers to build off of a single defining line or string. The string will become hidden in an organized tangle of shapes chosen by the student. Students will then create a balance of blacks, whites, colors and patterns while following the 7 Elements of Art (Line, Shape, Form, Space, Color, Texture, Value).

EXQUISITE CORPSES

This project introduces the students to a technique used by surrealist painters and poets back in the 1920's called Exquisite Corpses. Students use 12''x18'' drawing paper and artist pencils to create their own version of this technique. Each student has to combine 3 different animals/objects to form one creature. The elements of Value and Texture is highly important in the production of their surrealist artwork.
